About this tool

PDFs break when a download is cut off, an email client mangles the attachment, or software writes a faulty cross-reference table. Readers then complain that the file is damaged, show blank pages or refuse to open it.

Repair PDF first lets qpdf rebuild the cross-reference table and rewrite every object. If that fails, pdf-lib scans the file object by object and rebuilds the page tree. As a last resort, pages that pdf.js can still display are rendered and saved as images, so you at least get the visible content back. The report tells you which method worked and lists any warnings.

A repair can't restore data that is completely missing from a truncated file, but it often rescues files other readers give up on.

Frequently asked questions

Will repaired pages look the same?

With qpdf or pdf-lib recovery, yes — content is kept as is. Only the last-resort method turns pages into images.

Why are some pages missing?

If the file was truncated, the data for those pages simply isn't there. The tool recovers everything that still exists.

Is it safe for confidential files?

Yes. Repair runs entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
