About this tool

Split PDF breaks one document into several smaller PDFs. Type page ranges such as “1-3, 4-10, 11-”, cut it every N pages, save every page as its own file, follow the document's bookmarks so each chapter becomes a file, or keep each part under a maximum size for email attachments.

Splitting by bookmarks is ideal for e-books, manuals and board packs: each top-level bookmark (or deeper level if you choose) starts a new file named after the bookmark title. Splitting by size measures every page and packs as many as fit under your limit.

Every part is an exact copy of the original pages — no re-rendering, no quality loss. When there are several parts you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Use cases

  • Send by email

Split a large scan into parts under 10 MB so each one fits your mail provider's attachment limit.

  • Chapters from an e-book

Split by bookmarks to turn a long manual into one file per chapter.

  • Separate scanned documents

A batch scan of many two-page forms becomes one file per form with “every 2 pages”.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write page ranges?

Separate parts with commas: “1-3, 5, 8-” gives three files — pages 1–3, page 5, and page 8 to the end. You can also use “last”, e.g. “10-last”.

Why is a part bigger than my size limit?

A single page that is larger than the limit on its own (for example a high-resolution photo) can't be split further, so it becomes its own part.

What if the PDF has no bookmarks?

Bookmark mode needs an outline in the PDF. Use ranges or every N pages instead, or add bookmarks first with the Bookmark tool.
